Play nowA chess variant where you draw modifiers that transform your pieces for the whole game.

Your bishops can swap places with one of your pieces standing in their line of sight.

Your pawns can also capture one square straight ahead.

Your queens can also move like a knight.
Make three piles by card type: Classic, Golden and Radiant. The recommended order is Classic → Golden → Radiant.
The game plays like a standard chess match. At the end of turns 1, 8 and 15, each player draws 3 cards, keeps one and puts the other two back at the bottom of the pile. The effect is active immediately and stays active until the end of the game.
Use their effect to your advantage to surprise your opponent. The game ends by checkmate or draw according to standard chess rules.
Here are three examples of each tier (Classic, Gold and Radiant), just a glimpse of the 54 modifiers in the game.
Subtle changes that enrich the game without turning it upside down.

Your bishops can swap places with one of your pieces standing in their line of sight.
Ninja bishopsThe bishop swaps places with the friendly knight.

While one of your knights threatens the enemy king, it cannot be captured.
Threatening knightsThe knight gives check: the pawn cannot capture it.

Your pawns promote from your 6th rank onwards.
Accelerated promotionThe pawn reaches the 6th rank and becomes a queen.
Stronger powers that shake up strategies.

Your pawns can also capture one square straight ahead.
Lancer pawnsThe pawn captures the piece right in front of it.

Your king can bring any one of your pieces to an unoccupied square adjacent to it (lines and diagonals). This counts as a move.
BodyguardsThe king summons the rook to a neighbouring square.

Your bishops can also move like a king.
Close-combat bishopsThe bishop steps one square straight ahead, like a king.
Unpredictable and spectacular effects that can reverse the course of the game.

All your pieces can pass through your other pieces.
Ghost piecesThe rook passes through its own pawn to capture.

Your queens can also move like a knight.
Knightly queenThe queen jumps like a knight.

If you check the enemy king 8 times, you win the game (double checks count twice).
Poisoned checksEvery check counts: the 8th one wins the game.
Just like in a game: pick a tier, draw three cards and keep one. The other two go back under the pile.
White to play and mate using the active modifier. Click a white piece, then its destination square.
